Enable Nexus 5 Developer Options & Install the USB Driver on Windows

android-nexus-5-developer-optionsThis is a quick tutorial showing how to use your Google Nexus 5  “as a developer” to run or test Android app developed on Windows PC.

 

 

 

( 1 ) Enable Developer Options

This is a one time step. If you see “{ } Developer options” under Settings, then NO need to go over this step.

  • 1. Go to Settings

  • 2. Click on About phone

  • 3. Click on Build number (7 times)

android-about-phoneEvery time you click on Build number you will see a message saying “You are now x steps away from being a developer”

( 2 ) Switch Developer Options ON & Check USB Debugging

  • 1. Go to Settings

  • 2. Click on Developer options

  • 3. Switch ON Developer options & Check USB Debugging

( 3 ) Connect as MTP

1. Go to Settings

  • 3. Click on USB computer connection

  • 4. Check Media device (MTP)

( 4 ) Install USB Driver for Windows

  •  Run Android SDK Manager
  • Install latest Google USB Driver
  • Run Window Device Manger (from command line type devmgmt.msc)
  • Right Click Nexus 5
  • Click Update Driver Software…
  • Select Browse my computer for driver software
  • Browse to [Android SDK Directory]/Extras/google/usb_driver
  • Wait until you see the following message
